The Brief

A new business in Hertford, Harwood Holmes approached us to design a website to promote their ‘bespoke handmade joinery’ and ‘interior design’ services.

The joinery services which includes the design and installation of bespoke furniture and fittings for kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and media rooms, is complimented by their discerning interior design service.

As well as promoting these services, Harwood Holmes also wanted to sell some of the furniture and accessories from their collection, so also required an ecommerce solution.

As well as being found on search engines, the website also needed to reinforce their other offline marketing activities such as exhibitions and magazine advertising.

How We Responded

As with the large majority of the websites we develop, the initial design concepts took into account the businesses’ corporate identity and target market. As the services offered by Harwood Holmes revolve around design, it was decided that an ‘image lead’ structure would best suit the type of products and services the business offers, and therefore appeal to their potential customers.

As with the joinery, the products offered by Harwood Holmes cater for traditional, contemporary and modern tastes, and therefore the website needed to reflect this in its colours, layout and navigation.

The online shop was designed with a minimalist style, using individual products to represent product categories and sub-categories down to product level. This visual navigation also allows Harwood Holmes to promote key products in each category.

The website also includes a virtual walk-around of the showroom allowing visitors to the website to take a full 360 degree tour. The tour itself is linked to Google maps street view, allowing visitors using the tour to walk in off the street and into the showroom.
