Intel just in the last week has announced the world’s first silicon based optical data connection that incorporates lasers. Distance is vastly extended over current copper technology as well as allowing greater speeds of 50 gigabits per second. For those who aren’t technically minded, that’s the equivalent of 1 High Definition film being transmitted every second.

Japan has just announced that their networks will soon be able to take advantage of 42Mbps HSPA data directly to their phone.
