Content Management Systems (CMS)
A content managed website provides businesses with the ability to update some or all areas of their website and is also referred to as a dynamic website.
Users are able to login to their online Content Management System (CMS) from any PC that is connected to the internet from anywhere in the world. Within the CMS users are able to add additional information such as ‘Latest News’, ‘Articles’ or ‘Customer Testimonials’ to their website as well as edit and remove existing information.
Other facilities such as online calendars, email campaigns, photo and video galleries, competitions, events, profiles and many other functions can also be added to the website and managed from within this system.
Regular changes to a website also help with Search Engine placement as a busy, regularly updated website is considered by the algorithms used in modern search engines, to have a higher priority than a static website.
These Content Management Systems do command more specialised skills as the sites are developed using a combination of coding and languages such as PHP and Java, as well as linking to databases such as MySQL. Due to the nature of Content Managed Websites they invariably take longer to develop and therefore are initially more expensive to set up than the more standard Brochure style websites. There are however long term cost savings to be considered as there is very little or no additional website maintenance or updating costs to be paid due to the fact these are carried out by the website owner via their unique Content Management System rather than the website designer. |
